Bega Valley Seed Savers

The Bega Valley Seed Savers are a network of people working cooperatively to protect and improve our abundant heritage of food seeds and plants. Since our inception in 2004 we have grown, saved, shared and sold seed and together built a community seed resource.

The group gathers in Bega on the first Friday of every month (except January) at the Bega Produce Markets in Littleton Gardens, from 9am to 12 noon.

We chat, process and package seeds together on the lawns. Come for as long as you desire. Do your shopping at the market, get a chai or a coffee from a nearby stall or café (we have reusable cups if you forget yours) while you are there. If it is raining we retreat to the nearby Landcare office's meeting room.

Ask to join our mailing list to get notifications of our gatherings and events.

There is also an off-shoot in Cobargo (see their separate entry in this forum) and another in Eden. Contact for the Eden folk is through the Bega group at the moment.

Bega Valley Seed Savers’ aim is to expand our communities’ capacity to grow their own food through:
1. Creating, maintaining and sharing resources;
2. Engaging in community education; and
3. Developing a network of knowledgeable contributors.

We are developing self-reliance in our communities to feed ourselves through home growing, community gardening and market gardening. We achieve this while nourishing local community connections and ensuring that wider support networks are in place around us.

The Bega Valley Seed Savers is a project auspiced by SCPA–South East Producers (https://scpa.org.au). We live and work on the lands of the Djiringanj people of the Yuin Nation.

Re: Bega Valley Seed Savers

A Woofer and the kids at the neighbouring flower farm made this video for our seed saving group.
