From Seed to a Feed

This talk was presented at the National Seed Savers Zoom on Sunday 3rd August 2025.

This project run by the Bega Valley Seed Savers was focused on strengthening our own network and giving back to our own volunteers. Find the recording of the talk about it here.

The idea is to start with seed and end up with a workshop making something from what was grown. We targeted varieties in our seed collection that weren’t very popular and ended up doing two.

Heritage maize – using the variety Manning Pride

Soybean – using the variety Shinonome

We deliberately aimed at foods that are made from seeds so people would have to save the seeds as part of the project – so also building seed saving skills and experience.
