Our next quarterly Zoom meetup of seed savers around Australia is happening on Sunday 2nd November, 5 – 6.30pm AEDST.
In our November session, we’ll be facilitating a group discussion and information exchange about saving seed from biennial plants. There’s a lot of sometimes confusing information out there about how to save seeds from plants that need more than a season to grow from seed to seed – but nothing beats local knowledge and practical experience!
Most plants we save seed from are annuals, completing their life cycle from seed to seed in one season. Biennials take longer and have some special needs. A lot of the information about biennials relates to the northern hemisphere. How can we translate that for Australian conditions? Is it really true that biennials need to grow over two years before being allowed to seed? Do they have to be lifted and stored over winter and replanted in spring? Are the rules different for us in the Southern hemisphere? Does it matter if biennial plants act as annuals for a season or two?
Join our discussion, share your own experiences and thoughts and hear from other gardeners and seed savers from all over Australia. You don’t need to be an expert seed saver to come to the zoom or to join the discussion. The experiences and knowledge – and questions – that we each have and can share help us all to learn more! You’re also welcome to join the zoom and just listen in.
We’ll make time at the end of session to share resources such as websites, books and guides – please bring anything you would like to contribute (we can share links and photos during the zoom).
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
